The Ohio Pork Council is looking for 4 highly motivated interns to join their team during for 2026 internships!

Event Intern

The Ohio Pork Council is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as the Event Intern for the 2026 Ohio Pork Congress. The internship offers a hands-on opportunity to support one of the largest pork industry events and trade shows.

The intern will work closely with the Ohio Pork Council staff to implement communication and marketing plans for the 2026 Ohio Pork Congress. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating social media content, assisting with event advertisements, and contributing to written communication and outreach efforts. Additional duties includes supporting on-site logistics and assisting with event operations as needed.

Communications Intern

The Ohio Pork Council is looking for a highly driven communications intern to join their team during Summer 2026.

The ideal candidate should be majoring in the field of agriculture, communications, marketing or journalism; preferably going into their junior or senior year. Knowledge of swine and modern agriculture is a plus, but not required.

The intern will be responsible for developing written and graphic communications for members, the media and consumers; increasing member participation and awareness of producer education programs; promotion of education and food stands at the Ohio State Fair; in addition to special events planning and volunteer recruitment.

The Ohio Pork Council Communications Internship is sure to provide a variety of learning opportunities and awesome experiences within the agriculture field.

OH-PIGS Program Intern

Join the OPC team and OH-PIGS Program for a spring and summer of learning and hands-on skill development. As OH-PIGS Program Intern, you will be responsible for efficient and effective communication with the Program Manager on expectations on a week-to-week basis. The intern will work closely with the Program Manager to ensure that the OH-PIGS Program has a successful line-up of shows. Some of the required or requested duties are as follows:

  • Communicate with Show Coordinators/ Hosts on expectations prior to each sanctioned show as outlined by the OH-PIGS Program Manager 
  • Be responsible for opening and closing online registration for each OH-PIGS sanctioned show 
  • Assist in the organization of each OH-PIGS show entry spreadsheet prior to submitting to the Show Coordinator/Host 
  • Ensure that all show points are submitted by each sanctioned show by the Wednesday following the show 
  • Record show points in a timely manner in the requested format, in accordance to rules and guidance given by the Program Manager 
  • Attend each sanctioned OH-PIGS show and assist the Program Manager and other staff on site as needed 
  • Serve as an ambassador for Ohio’s pig industry 
  • Conduct themselves as a role model for all OH-PIGS members and their families

Pig Care & Education Intern

 The Ohio Pork Council Pig Care and Education Intern will serve as the key staff person at the 2026 Ohio State Fair Birthing Center. During the 12-day event, the intern will play an integral role in providing quality animal care, monitoring the farrowing process, and maintaining a positive public perception for fairgoers in attendance. The intern will be responsible for the following: 

  • Sow Care: Will provide daily care to the sows housed in the Land & Living Building at the Ohio State Fair. Daily care includes, but is not limited to feeding, watering, laying fresh bedding, maintaining a clean-living environment for the animals, and creating a positive experience for fairgoers. 
  • Farrowing Assistance: Will assist each sow during the farrowing process (occurring on two separate occasions). Includes the following responsibilities: working with the on-staff veterinarian to induce the sow, promptly drying each piglet off and directing it under the heat lamp upon delivery, maintaining a calm environment for the sow, ensuring the highest animal welfare standards, and addressing any emergency situations that may occur (i.e., distress during labor; a struggling piglet). 
  • Consumer Education: Will serve as the key contact for incoming questions from fairgoers. As such, the intern should feel comfortable handling high-stress situations. The intern is required to speak on modern pork production and the complexities of the farrowing process.
